Spindler's design inspiration came from the concept of fine-tuning. The PickyPods brand is all about tailoring the needs of both women and men. The logo, inspired by a fine-tune wing nut, along with the prominent gender symbols, clearly communicates this brand's unique approach to gender-specific formulas. The flavor labels further appeal to personal preference, making each package a customized experience for the consumer.
The unique properties of PickyPods lie in its bold and energetic color scheme, designed to attract its target audience of gym-goers. Unlike other supplements that promise extraordinary transformations, PickyPods focuses on making fine adjustments to our bodies according to age, gender, and other important factors. The design successfully disrupts the saturated supplement market with its bold icon design focus and instant recognition through universally understood gender symbols.
The design realization technology involves stand-up pouches with zip lock closures, sachets, and labels. The materials used include MOPP, VMPET, and LLDPP. The pouches and sachets are printed in 5 colors with Spot UV and Matt Varnish, while the labels are printed in one color with Matt Varnish. The pouch measures 170mm x 120mm x 45mm, the sachet is 80mm x 130mm, and the label is 210mm x 42mm.
The design project, which took place in Sydney over a duration of four months in 2020, faced the challenge of visually communicating 12 flavor variants while keeping the print run as generic as possible. The creative solution was to print only two generic pouches that could be varied with flavor stickers, providing a viable economic solution for the start-up business.
Spindler's PickyPods is a testament to the power of innovative design in disrupting saturated markets. The design's success lies in its ability to communicate its unique selling proposition - tailoring supplements to individual needs - through its bold and energetic packaging. The Silver A' Packaging Design Award is a well-deserved recognition of Spindler's outstanding expertise and innovation in design.
